Family activity centre opens after significant transformation
A family activity centre in Cumbria has opened its doors after undergoing a significant transformation.
Architects at Align are proud to have been involved in the refurbishment of Maryport Activity Centre, which forms part of Cumberland Council’s £12 million regeneration of the town.
The venue now features a bespoke adventure play area, a large gym and fitness studio with changing rooms and showers, and a range of multi-use spaces that can be used to host a range of community events.
A café and catering facilities have also been added to the centre, which opened its doors on Friday (January 17).
Senior architect at Align, Svea Polster, worked on the project and believes it will make a positive difference to local communities.
She said: “It’s fantastic to see the activity centre open its doors to the public and I hope everyone’s impressed with the new facilities and everything that is on offer.
“It’s been a real team effort and we are proud to have worked with main contractor Thomas Armstrong Construction on this project.
“We hope the new facilities will have a hugely positive impact for local communities.”
The Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, added: “We held a ‘first look’ at Maryport Activity Centre last weekend with guided tours, and the feedback has been absolutely fantastic. People are amazed by the transformation of this building.
“I need to thank the council’s Maryport regeneration team for pushing so hard to create something so impressive that will become a destination for locals and visitors alike.
“Also, thank you to our partners at GLL and our contractors Thomas Armstrong Construction. This is a flagship project in the £12 million regeneration of Maryport and it is fantastic to see the results.”
