Valuable Work Experience
Eighteen local students have gained valuable work experience with us since the start of 2023.
As shown with our popular apprenticeship scheme, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation and giving young people the chance to maximise their potential.
So it was brilliant to invite our latest work experience student – 15-year-old Oli Blumer – into Align’s Northallerton office last week where he learnt more about who we are and what we do.
He spent the week shadowing staff from a number of different departments – including our sustainability team, properties and estates, business support and our architects.
Oli said: “It was a fantastic week – I absolutely loved my time with Align. The week flew by but I learnt so much and am hugely thankful for the way everyone was so welcoming.
“My week started with the bidding and marketing team which is a very interesting and varied department. I looked through and helped with lots of different projects, notably a presentation for a school assembly on degree apprenticeships.
“In business support, I learnt how they deal with invoices and orders, and in sustainability I learnt about how properties are surveyed to see how energy efficient they are.
“I got loads of tips on how to make my own home more efficient and friendly towards the environment – while saving money!
“I then moved to the architecture department and learnt how to use a design tool called Revit – it’s very fun to use and so useful. I was then given a floor plan and told to draw it out in 3D and had to see if the current layout of the building was the best it could be.
“The following day, I was in properties and estates where we discussed current projects ongoing – and it was fascinating to hear about what’s happening in and around my area.
“I then tried my hand at social media, before heading back to architecture where I installed a rendering engine for my design so it would look perfect – colouring it in and adding weather shadows and plants around it.
“It was a fantastic week and I’d really recommend it to any other students who are interested in the wide range of work that Align do.”
